Books for 2023

The course material consists of 2 books written in English:

Jørgen Arendt Jensen: Estimation of Blood Velocities Using Ultrasound, A Signal Processing Approach, Cambridge University Press, 2013 edition on CampusNet.

The book can be obtained through DTU Learn under file sharing, if you are properly registred for the course.

P+L: J. L. Prince & J. M. Links: Medical imaging signals and systems (second edition), Pearson Prentice Hall Bioengineering, 2015, ISBN: 978-0-13-214518-3 It can be bought from the PF bookstore with a 10% discount at this Link

The first edition can also be used: P+L: J. L. Prince & J. M. Links: Medical imaging signals and systems, Pearson Prentice Hall Bioengineering, 2006, ISBN: 0-13-065353-5 The page and chapter numbers might, however, be different.

Signal processing

The course requires knowledge of signal processing. The theory is described in: Noter til 31610 Anvendt signalbehandling, by S. B. Pedersen, J. A. Jensen, B. Guldbrandsen and K. Henneberg in Danish and can be downloaded here in pdf format. It was previously used in the course on Applied signal processing.

The current course notes for 22052 Applied signal processing is: S. Puthusserypady, Applied Signal Processing, Now publishers inc., Boston – Delft, 2021.

Notes

More information about ultrasound fields and their simulation can be found in: J.A. Jensen: Linear description of ultrasound imaging systems, in Notes for the International Summer School on Advanced Ultrasound Imaging, Technical University of Denmark May 24 to June 2, 2023, Technical University of Denmark, May, 2023.

The slide showing Hounsfield units for a CT scan can be downloaded here. The slide is taken from: E. Krestel (ed.): Imaging systems for medical diagnostics, Siemens, 1990.

The publication: "Diagnostic radiation physics: A handbook for teachers and students" can be found for free in pdf-format at: https://www.iaea.org/publications/8841/diagnostic-radiology-physics. It is written for students and teachers involved in programs that train medical physicists for work in diagnostic radiology. It provides, in the form of a syllabus, a comprehensive overview of the basic medical physics knowledge required for the practice of modern diagnostic radiology. This makes it particularly useful for graduate students and residents in medical physics programmes. The material presented in the publication has been endorsed by the major international organizations and is the foundation for academic and clinical courses in diagnostic radiology physics and in emerging areas such as imaging in radiotherapy.

A note on MR imaging has been written in Danish by Lars G. Hanson explaining the basics of MR scanning. It can be downloaded here: Lars G. Hanson: Introduktion til teknikken bag MR-skanning, MR-Afdelingen, Hvidovre Hospital, 2009.
An English version can be found here.

A math supplement on magnetic resonance basics for the lectures and notes can be found: here at http://www.drcmr.dk/Docs/MRmath.pdf

The slides from the different lecturs can be found on the Course plan.
